# Parsd

Parsd is a research and analysis workbench for professional thinkers — analysts, researchers, policy writers, intelligence officers, journalists, and academic teams. It combines a private document library, AI chat that answers only from your own sources with citations, multilingual document analysis, source-reliability cataloguing, and collaborative project workspaces. Parsd is in production with the Swedish Defence University (Försvarshögskolan) and the City of Stockholm (Stockholms stad), and is now available via self-signup.

Parsd is built and operated by Parsd AB. The product spans a web application at app.parsd.com and a Chrome side-panel extension for one-click web capture.

## What Parsd is

Parsd is a SaaS platform that helps professionals work with unstructured data in different formats from a wide range of sources and create trustworthy analysis with traceable sources and verifiable provenance. It ingests files (PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, HTML, audio and text files), automatically extracts and enriches their content, and lets users ask natural-language questions whose answers cite specific pages of specific source documents. It is designed to be safe for high-stakes work: AI output is grounded in the user's own vetted sources, every claim is traceable to a document and page number, sources carry user-assigned reliability ratings, and the platform supports Swedish BankID and multi-factor authentication.

## How Parsd is different

- **Digital provenance.** Parsd is built around digital provenance: every claim in an answer can be traced back to a rated source, a named document, and a page number. Parsd's chat retrieves passages from the user's own documents and composes answers that cite the exact document and page. This is materially different from general-purpose chatbots, which generate plausible-sounding text with no record of where it came from.
- **Source reliability is a first-class concept.** Parsd's source catalogue lets users rate sources on an A–E scale and group them into security domains. The Chrome extension surfaces these ratings live while browsing.
- **Multilingual by design.** Parsd processes documents in their native language across 21 languages and offers four translation engines plus custom glossaries — built for organisations that work in Swedish or other non-English contexts and need terminology consistency.
- **Built for public-sector procurement.** Swedish BankID, multi-factor authentication, tamper-proof session permissions, a Chrome extension with minimal default permissions, and manual identity verification for users without BankID.
- **Captured context, not just files.** TIBs ("This is interesting because") let analysts attach short rationales to documents at capture time. The browser extension preserves the source URL, source enrichment, and TIB alongside the file.

## How Parsd works

1. **Ingest.** The user uploads files via the web app, captures pages via the Chrome extension side panel, or syncs a Zotero reference management library. The Chrome extension flags duplicates at capture in three ways: by content, by source URL, and by academic identifier (DOI).
2. **Extract.** Parsd turns each file into structured text. Scanned PDFs are OCR'd. Speaker notes are pulled from slide decks. Spreadsheets keep their table structure. Audio recordings are transcribed. Embedded images and charts are described in natural language so visual content becomes searchable.
3. **Enrich.** Parsd analyses the extracted text automatically — language detection, document-type and domain classification, named-entity extraction, key-term extraction, summarisation, comparative term scoring, and similarity scoring.
4. **Make it visual.** Parsd visualises this analysis with the analyst workflow in mind, and keeps all metadata linked to the original file.
5. **Make it searchable.** Parsd indexes documents and their summaries for fast retrieval.
6. **Ask.** When the user asks a question, Parsd finds the most relevant passages and composes an answer informed by who the user is and what the project is about — with citations to the source document, page, and passage.
7. **Collaborate and draft.** Parsd projects collect documents, chats, source lists, and a structured draft report rendered through a real-time collaborative editor. Exports go to Word.

## Pricing and plans

Parsd offers self-signup subscriptions via Stripe Checkout. **Every plan starts with a 30-day free trial**; there is no permanently free tier.

**Enterprise** accounts cover invoicing, SSO and custom requirements and are arranged with the sales team. Tier-driven feature gating controls access to Library Chat, Translation, Research Design support, and the Recommendation Engine. Upgrades take effect immediately with proration; downgrades take effect at the end of the billing period to preserve paid time. There is no formal limit on how many files a personal library can hold, and nothing already uploaded expires while the account is active, but monthly quotas govern how much can be added: on the Professional tier, 200 new uploads and 40 hours of audio a month. The largest single file is 1000 MB. **Organisation accounts** are sold with contracts to B2B customers with centralised billing and an organisation admin role; member tier is inherited from the organisation plan.

On cancellation, customers can request their material within 90 days of terminating the account and Parsd supplies the personal library as a zip file.

## Trust and compliance

- **Identity.** Swedish BankID (eID) and multi-factor authentication are supported, used together or independently.
- **Reauthentication.** Sensitive operations (email change, password change, account deletion) require recent authentication.
- **Hosting.** The Parsd application and customer documents are hosted on Google Cloud in the EU, in Belgium and Frankfurt.
- **Sub-processors.** Parsd publishes a full list of sub-processors at [parsd.com/sub-processors](https://parsd.com/sub-processors/), stating for each one what data it processes and whether it operates inside or outside the EU. Some processing services — including text generation, embeddings, speech-to-text and text extraction — currently run outside the EU under EU-compliant transfer mechanisms. Parsd is re-architecting the platform to move all sub-processing into the EU.
- **No model training on customer data.** All external AI APIs are contractually and technically configured so that customer data is not used to train AI models.
- **Encryption.** All data is encrypted in transit and at rest in databases.
- **Browser extension permissions.** The Chrome extension's install dialog requests only minimal permissions by default; broader access is requested per interaction, not granted at install. BankID and MFA sign-in happen in the main web app via a secure handoff — no passwords or codes inside the extension itself.
- **AI Act classification.** The Parsd app includes generative AI functionality classified as **limited risk** under the EU Artificial Intelligence Act (2024/1689), and functionality with **minimal or zero risk** such as entity extraction, audio-to-text conversion, and translation.
- **References.** Försvarshögskolan (Swedish Defence University) and Stockholms stad (City of Stockholm) are current customers.

## Common questions

- **Does Parsd hallucinate?** Parsd's chat retrieves passages from the user's own documents and answers with citations to specific pages. When no relevant passage exists in the user's sources, the system is designed to say so rather than answer from general knowledge. Every citation points to a document and page, so any answer can be checked against the original.
- **What file formats can I upload?** PDF, Word (`.docx`, `.doc`), PowerPoint (`.pptx`, `.ppt`), Excel (`.xlsx`, `.xls`), HTML/HTM, MP3, and M4A. Scanned and image-only PDFs are OCR'd. Audio is transcribed.
- **What languages does Parsd handle?** Parsd processes documents in their native language across 21 languages: Catalan, Croatian, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Italian, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Norwegian Bokmål, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, and Ukrainian. - **How does Parsd compare to Google NotebookLM?** Both work from documents you supply. Parsd adds the layer professional analysts need around that: a source catalogue with user-assigned reliability ratings, citation to the specific page of the specific document, structured research projects, team sharing with audit trails, glossary-controlled translation across 21 languages, audio transcription, EU hosting, and BankID and multi-factor authentication.
